Smoke Free Niagara
Niagara residents and visitors can now enjoy smoke-free outdoor spaces.
Outdoor public places on municipal and regional properties are smoke-free under Regional By-law 112-2013.
This includes:
- Parks
- Playgrounds
- Sports or playing fields
- Splash pads and outdoor pools
- Arenas
- Festival and events located on municipal and regional property
- Properties such as city hall, libraries and recreation centres
Permitted Smoking Locations
Smoking is allowed on sidewalks, parking lots, roads, rights-of-ways, beaches and walking trails.
Enforcement
Tobacco Control Officers and Municipal By-Law Officers have the authority to issue warnings and charges under the by-law.
The minimum fine is $250 (plus $55 court fees = $305).
